Monash University

In addition to its contribution to ANFF as operator of the MCN, Monash University welcomes ANFF users to the Monash Centre for Electron Microscopy (MCEM).

MCEM is a central university research facility that conducts research in electron microscopy and provides advanced instrumentation, expertise and training in electron microscopy.

The MCEM suite of advanced instrumentation can determine the composition, structure and bonding of materials down to the atomic scale. These instruments include Australia’s only “double-aberration-corrected” electron microscope, which is the highest resolution electron microscope in Australia and one of just a handful worldwide

Instrumentation includes:

  • Transmission Electron Microscopes (TEM)
  • Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEM)
  • Focussed Ion Beam/Scanning Electron Microscope
  • Preparation equipment for SEM and TEM samples

ANFF users from outside Monash University who may wish to access MCEM should in the first instance discuss their needs with MCN staff who will be happy to make introductions and facilitate access.
