Renewal of the Monash MCN Access Program

Monash University has announced the renewal of the pre-paid access program. The program becomes effective as of 01 June, 2012 and enables use of the MCN for Monash University researchers.

The access is limited to:
     a.  any Training actvities i.e. where MCN staff are involved in getting you/students sufficiently experienced to become independant users of the facility
     b.  any unassisted use of MCN equipment and facilities - subject to individual competency licenses to operate MCN equipment, as granted by the MCN Instrument Managers.

All users of this access program must provide their own consumables or arrange to pay MCN separately if costs for consumables are incurred.

Any assisted use of the facility is excluded (i.e. where users are accompanied by an MCN staff member for purposes other than training) and must be paid separately by any Monash user.

All users are required to follow the standard procedures for use of the MCN facility, including creating a user account, online booking of all equipment, facility induction, etc

How do you get started?

The access process is:

Step 1:
The student/researcher should contact one of the MCN Instrument Managers in the relevant area of expertise (see http://nanomelbourne.com/access) or email MCN-enquiries@monash.eduif they are not sure who is most relevant to them. The Instrument Manager will then advise on the feasibility of the proposed project at MCN, and/or give a time line for equipment access or training requirements.
Step 2:
Once the project details have been confirmed with the relevant Instrument Manager(s) the student/researcher will be asked to submit a user registration form located on the MCN online booking system (see http://vera073.its.monash.edu.au/).
Step 3:
Once the client registration is approved the student/researcher will need to attend an MCN facility induction (currently held every Monday at 10am). Please contact the Facility Manager (paul.spizzirri@monash.edu) to confirm your attendance. Information on all aspects of MCN is contained in the USER MANUAL (see http://nanomelbourne.com/access).
Step 4:
Contact the relevant Instrument Manager(s) to begin appropriate instrument training as necessary.
