Bernie is a technology and operations leader at the Melbourne Centre For Nanofabrication (MCN), where he oversees technical engineering teams, laboratory operations, and advanced fabrication capabilities supporting industry and academic partners in nanotechnology research, prototype development, and small-volume manufacturing.
He is responsible for ensuring operational excellence across MCN's ISO-certified facility, driving equipment performance, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement through Lean manufacturing practices.
Bernie also leads MCN’s Analytics and Artificial Intelligence initiatives, serving as Chair of the MCN Analytics/AI Working Group. In this role, he guides the adoption of data-driven operations, advanced analytics, and AI applications aimed at improving operational performance and enhancing services for researchers and industry clients.
Prior to joining MCN, Bernie spent 17 years with Intel in semiconductor manufacturing, working across process development, technology characterisation, advanced data analytics, and manufacturing operations within high-volume fabrication environments.
Bernie holds a Bachelor of Science in Materials Science and Engineering from Purdue University and an MBA from Arizona State University.
Hailing from Phoenix, Arizona, Bernie enjoys exploring Australia with his family. A passionate sports fan, he has fully embraced Australian Rules Football and holds his own in the office footy tipping competition.
