Inductions & training
Regular inductions
Please note: there is no need to book prior to attending any of the training modules unless you are planning on bringing a large group. Attendees are advised to bring suitable footwear as the session will conclude with a laboratory walkthrough.
We kindy ask that all participants arrive promptly, as the inductions will start on time and entry will not be permitted for latecomers as they may miss crucial information. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
2024 - Please note the final inductions for 2024 will be held on Monday 2 December 2024
2025 - Please note inductions will recommence in 2025 on Monday 20 January 2025
General Induction
This is compulsory for all NEW users of the MCN facility. For EXISTING users, an abridged refresher course must be completed every 12 months to maintain access to the facility.
First and third Monday of the month,

Safety, Dangerous Goods and
Waste Management
This is compulsory for all new users of the MCN facility.
First and third Monday of the month,
11:30am - 1:00pm
Local area inductions
This is compulsory for all users of the MCN facility and includes the cleanroom and wet labs. Most of the wet labs are PC certified. Users accessing these facilities must also complete Biosafety Training (see additional training section below). Attendees should meet at reception and be wearing footwear appropriate for the laboratory.
First and third Monday of the month,
Cleanroom 1:30pm - 2:30pm
Wet Labs 2:30pm - 3.30pm
Safety and operations
All users are welcome to participate in the safety and operations meeting which is a forum for open discussion of any safety or operational issue of relevance to the MCN user community.
Every second Tuesday, 1:00pm - 2:00pm
Induction refreshers
Abridged refreshes courses are compulsory for all users of the MCN facility and must be completed every 12 months to maintain access to the facility.
These are held biannually in April and October.

Occupational Health & Safety Training
Available to all Users

Manual Handling, Hazard & Incident Investigation, Hazardous Substances & Dangerous Goods Awareness
Biosafety Training
Available to all Users. MCN’s General Wet Labs and Microscopy Facility are PC2 certified facilities. Anyone accessing these facilities must complete biosafety training.
Biosafety Basic Principles is required for anyone who will be working with any biological material or animal tissues and Biosafety Module 2 is mandatory training for anyone working in a PC certified facility.
Non-Monash staff and students will need to first register and create a myDevelopment Profile - Create myDevelopment profile
Hydrofluoric Acid Safety Principles
This course is designed to make those using or considering using Hydrofluoric acid and solutions aware of the hazards in its use, the laboratory requirements, personal protective equipment, reinforcing of good lab practices and protocols, as well as first aid requirements for its use.
